I don’t really have a lot I can say here, except if you didn’t watch President Obama speak at the dedication of the Smithsonian Museum of African American History, you owe it to yourself to do so.
I’m an old cynical lefty political animal. I don’t get weepy at political speeches. But I’m not ashamed to say that by the time they got to the bell ringing ceremony, which President and First Lady Obama did in conjunction with the family of the daughter of a slave, I was in tears.
That’s it. Watch it. Watch it again. This man has a gift of conveying the way love of nation should work (as opposed to the superficial way it usually is expressed in our politics) that is rare beyond rare. For all my policy differences with him, I’ll miss him for that more than I can express.
